You probably spend a lot of time on your Windows desktop, so it makes sense to spend some time customizing it. It’s one part of the many ways you can customize Windows 10 as you see fit. A few quick tricks can make your desktop icons more attractive or useful. Here are a few options you might want to try.
Right-click any free space on your desktop, and you can use the View menu to choose between Small, Medium, and Large icons. If you don’t like those presets, you can hold Ctrl and scroll your mouse wheel to adjust the sizes in small increments.
You can change the icons for program shortcuts to anything else you’d like. Just right-click it and choose Properties, then click the Change Icon button to pick a new one. See our guide to customizing Windows icons for more information.
Maybe you’re tired of desktop icons because they’re distracting or block your wallpaper. If that’s the case, right-click anywhere and choose View > Show desktop icons to hide them all. You can repeat that process anytime to show them again, and they’ll be right back where you left them.
If you want to manage the files on your desktop while they’re hidden, you can open a File Explorer window to the Desktop.
Perhaps you’ve not taken the time to tweak your Windows desktop because it’s full of clutter. Now’s the time to clean up your desktop for good. Get rid of all the old shortcuts you never use, and move the programs you use all the time to the Start Menu or Taskbar. Then your desktop will be freed up for visual appeal!
